Pregnancy Support and
Resource Program

WHAT CAN THIS PROGRAM DO FOR ME?

MYCAP's Pregnancy Support and Resource Program helps you take charge of your pregnancy and birth experience and make choices and decisions that are best for you and your baby.

We have many resources and services to assist you during your pregnancy, as you give birth, and after you and your baby are home.

Here are some of the many ways we can help:

  • We'll provide information on the importance of good nutrition during pregnancy, and the effect of alcohol, drugs and smoking on your unborn child.
  • We'll help you create a birth plan, which will lead to a more satisfactory birth experience.
  • We'll prepare you for what to expect during labor, delivery, and the days and weeks following childbirth (the postpartum period).
  • We'll ensure that, if you wish, you'll have a Doula (labor support person) with you to help you through your childbirth.

WHAT IS A DOULA?

A Doula is a woman trained and experienced in childbirth who is at your side during childbirth to give you continuous physical, emotional and informational support. She will explain to you what is going on during labor and delivery, providing a constant, friendly presence. Your Doula will also visit you and your baby at home.

Many studies have shown that having a Doula available during these times will:

  • Shorten labor and reduce complications during childbirth
  • Reduce requests for pain medication
  • Provide for a more satisfying birth experience
  • Strengthen the bond between mother and baby
  • Make it easier for babies to breastfeed
  • Reduce the likelihood of postpartum depression
